Does anybody really write resolutions? Talk about setting yourself up for failure. I’ve never been too good at writing them let alone keeping them. New Years’ resolutions are usually a practice in the art of futility for me. However, I have two words that have been resurfacing in my mind over the past couple of weeks. I am making these two words my “mantra” for 2007. Here they are:
1. PROACTIVE--[proh-ak-tiv]–creating or controlling a situation by causing something to happen rather than responding to it after it has happened.
This past year I found myself on the REACTIVE rather than the proactive side of life. You can’t control everything and I am far from a control freak but I am tired of having the tail wag the dog.
2. DISCIPLINE-[dis-uh-plin]– to train or develop by instruction and exercise especially in self-control.
I believe that DISCIPLINE is the key to life. I have always prided myself on the fact that I am a free-spirit. Discipline has always seemed rigid and too hardcore for me. However, I absolutely believe that DISCIPLINE is the missing ingredient to reaching our goals.
