Ouch! #%$&**

So I took off this morning for an early surf session out at CB. I can’t think of too many better ways to start my day than by paddling out through beautiful glassy waves slowly peeling away toward the shore. It’s Nirvana…nevermind. So Brad and I hooked up this morning at his bachelor pad and hit the surf. The waves were small but nothing “Ruth” and I can’t handle. After a few sweet waves I was paddling out when all the sudden the feeling of 17 tattoo guns stabbing my arm alarmed me. I quickly yanked my arm out of the water to find several tentacles attached to me. I pulled them off and threw them into the water and began to paddle out of dodge. Well, as I began to paddle I must have paddled right through where I chunked the tentacles because now my right arm is stinging. Not as bad though. Writhing in pain (pardon the exaggeration) I caught the next wave in to examine the carnage. I had red lines developing on my forearm. Then the lines turned into what appeared to be swelled up veins. (The picture doesn’t do justice, it was taken hours after the attack.)

pic of my armI then began to feel this sensation like little critters were crawling under my skin with flamethrowers. It was burning! So I did what anyone would do. I hiked up my trunk leg and proceeded to urinate on myself. Which believe it or not is actually harder than one would think. Don’t believe me…just try peeing on your forearm. Go ahead…I’ll wait. It didn’t help. So I stood on the beach for about ten minutes debating whether or not I should get back in the water. My arm was still enfuego. Which means on fire…I think. Well, to make a long story short I threw caution to the wind and charged back out to continue my session. The moral of my story is that sometimes life stings…In those moments the best thing to do is to take a breather, pee on yourself, and get back in the water. Don’t let the fear of what could be, keep you from doing what you love.

  • [...] As I posted a while back, surfing can be a dangerous sport. Just the other day I took a nasty fall while trying to pull into a barrel.  My board shot out in front of me and then I landed on it.  I hit my thumb on a fin and then my right thigh slammed into the tail of the board.  Needless to say it hurt.  Don’t worry my board is fine, my thumb is getting better but my thigh isn’t looking so hot.  You may not want to click here if you are squeemish or are offended by man thigh.  Click at your own risk!
